This is NOT a complete listing of Manchester Cemetery. This listing includes only those burials in the oldest part of Manchester Cemetery which is located across the road from the section containing newer and current burials. You can find the newer section of Manchester cemetery in the cemetery listing titled Manchester Cemetery.

There appear to be many additional burials in this cemetery. There are numerous foot-stones without headstones, many stones broken off at the base and lots of empty space between stones which would indicate other burials which either were never marked or for which the stones have disappeared. According to the gentleman who mows the cemetery, this was at one time a free cemetery - anyone could be buried here with no charge for lots. He indicated that they eventually had to stop using this portion of the cemetery as they kept finding graves when attempting to dig new ones. This further substantiates the belief that there are many unmarked graves here.

Directions: Manchester lies approximately 16 miles southwest of Jacksonville which is in Morgan County, Illinois. Driving south of of Jacksonville on Rtes. 67/267, go approximately 9 miles to the intersection where Rte. 67 angles off to the southwest and Rte. 267 continues on straight south. The intersection is marked with a sign pointing to Murrayville. Drive through Murrayville (2 miles from the turnoff) and continue for 5 more miles to Manchester. After driving under the railroad bridge at the edge of Manchester, you can turn left at the first street which is East Street and go 2 blocks to 6th Street or, continue around the curve in the highway and turn left on 6th Street which is the first street after rounding the curve. After turning left on 6th Street, drive 2 blocks (the 2nd one is a long one) and you will see Old Manchester Cemetery ahead of you on a curve and on your left.
